Die Strottern & Blech (AT)

The “Strottern” play some sort of Fado, we could say. Just a little less melodramatic, but more jolly, more nasty, more grotesque. And enriched by a trumpet and a trombone, thus their program is simply called “Die Strottern & Blech”, which roughly translates to “The Tinkers & Brass”. Oh, and there is a harmonium on stage. Ptak and Müller play it alternately every now and then. And overall, among a sonic maze of traditional Wienerlied (Viennese Songs), threads of Jazz are frequently shimmering beautifully. Between the songs, Lendl casually narrates little anecdotes and sheds light on the nature of the singular Wienerlied culture. Those little reflections on the poetry of the merry melancholy, full of wry wisdom concealed with alleged simplemindedness. Contemplations on life from unusual viewpoints that nevertheless reverberate with the music of the whole wide world.
