Our heritage. Our natural heritage. Our cultural heritage.
We can only inherit something if we – or somebody – takes care of its preservation. This is true for both the tangible and the intangible heritage. If we don’t actively preserve (or even protect) monuments, landscapes, natural environments, or musical traditions, they will be lost.
Once a year, the World Heritage Committee meets and decides on what is worth protecting. This serves to preserve our planet and to raise awareness of the sensitive balance between man and nature. Fortunately, our wellenklænge festival is embedded in a natural environment that is deemed worth protecting! In 2017, the wilderness area of Dürrenstein with its Rothwald was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Whichever way you look at it, it’s all about listening from your heart.
But what does “from your heart” mean? It means to enter into dialogue with benevolence, empathy, and willingness to accept, and to allow our own idea of the world to expand a little. The power of music is to create a framework for listening – listening to both the sounds of the instruments and ourselves, while receiving music.
Learning to resonate with our inner voice makes it easier for us to resonate with our environment. When we learn to truly listen, listen to our fellow human beings and to the signals of nature, when we leave some “doing” behind in favour of more “being”, practice our receptive qualities more than the active ones, then we allow ourselves to enter into a deep connection with what surrounds us: with ourselves and our environment. We get a better idea of the fact that we are not separate from our environment, but part of one planet.
This year’s festival motto:
To listen to the sound of our natural environment, to explore its processes and to learn from them. To perceive its sounds and to be inspired by them. To cultivate a relationship between man and nature, based on listening.
